How do I extract my DVR recordings on to say my laptop? According to my own research it’s as simple as plugging in a USB cable into both, but I’m a bit skeptical about that. EDIT: I should’ve also mentioned that it’s an Xfinity X1 DVR. Probably an important detail. I believe pulling the HD voids both the warranty and the actual cable TV service itself.

Actual Oppo-related posts coming soon for your time.

That’s interesting question to which I’d also like to know the answer.

I asked one of the installer lackeys once about my Uverse DVR and its USB port. He said it was for updating the box only. I tried it anyways.

My PC doesn’t recognize it, and all its good for is charging phones and other USB devices.

What cable company do you use? I have a ton of shows backed up onto a USB external drive, but I’m fairly certain that Dish uses some sort of encryption that would keep me from pulling them and watching them on anything other than my Dish receiver.

My gut tells me that pulling the hard drive and putting it into a dock or an enclosure would be on the right track, but if the video is somehow encrypted, you’re SOL.

You can move stuff through the USB port for additional space, but it will be encoded. Good uck playing it back through anything other than that DVR

We had a Panasonic DVR for free-to-air recording and that could be plugged into an ethernet cable and it would appear as a network media device and we could copy using that, otherwise possibly pulling the hard drive as suggested might work.
